BALOO
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation

According to the current BSA rules, “Pack overnighters must be organized and led by an adult leader who has successfully completed BALOO training.” Without BALOO training in the Council, no pack can (should) participate in overnight camping except at the council sponsored events - Fun with Son or Webelos Adventure camps.  Camping done as a pack without a BALOO trained adult is simply camping with friends and Scouting insurance and assurances do not apply.

The next BALOO training is:

  • October 16, 2010

On-Line Safe Swim Defense &
Safety Afloat Training

The number of serious injuries and fatalities in water-related activities is small compared to the number of Scouting activities every year.  But even one serious injury or life lost is too many.  Scouting has lost lives to aquatics injuries and fatalities - second only to those lost in vehicle accidents.  To prevent aquatics accidents, we must all know and follow Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat.  The life you save or the injury you prevent may be your Scout's.

Supplemental Training Modules

Supplemental training modules are designed to provide orientation beyond the basic training offered in New Leader Essentials and leader-specific training. Each module is a unit of training that can be used as an outline for a group, for personal coaching, or for self-study. Most of the outlines should require about an hour to complete. Consider each unit of study to be an introduction to the subject. Scouters are welcome to download subjects that are of interest for personal or unit use. There are no training credits associated with the completion of these units of study. Additional training units are being developed and will be continually added to this site.

Click here to access the supplemental training modules.
