Ecology/Conservation Director

The Ecology/Conservation Director is responsible to the Camp Director through the Program Director. They are responsible for personnel, program, operation and equipment of the Ecology/Conservation. The Ecology/Conservation Director must be at least 18 years old and trained in conservation or certified by the National Camp School Nature Section.

Duties include:

  • Knowledge of the natural history, ecology and conservation aspects of the camp.
  • Reviews and follows the yearly conservation plan for the camp with respect to projects carried out during the camping season.
  • Is knowledgeable of where nature and conservation fit into the advancement program of the BSA and is familiar with all the requirements of the associated merit badges.
  • Submits an equipment and material inventory of the Ecology/conservation to the Program Director.
  • Coordinates with the Camp Director and the Commissioner the posting of conservation projects taken from the conservation plan to be carried out by individuals, patrols or troops and assists in carrying them out.
  • Helps troop leaders interpret ecology and conservation concepts to boys: Nature trails, marked forestry plots, erosion control displays, soil profiles, weather station.
  • Participates in all staff meeting, sharing ideas for the continual improvement of the camp program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Program Director.
