Trash Bag Fundraiser Spring 2017

  

 

Speaking to many units over the past year I have found that popcorn sales do a great job of funding many units annual program year, but don’t really help youth pay for summer camp.  Discussing ideas this summer during camp, several units expressed interest in possibly doing a trash bag sale in April 2017 to help youth pay for camp.

This is a pretty straight forward sale with both the unit and council earning a 35% commission.  The “council’s portion” of the trash bag sale will go directly into our 3 camps.  In 2015, revenue from all camping operations lost $45K.  In 2016, that number will be a lot better, but still be in the $15K-$20K range.  Popcorn sales over the past several years have been flat to declining, so another source of funding is needed if we are to continue to upgrade in improve our camping programs.  Some highlights that will be happening in 2017 at our camps: 

  • 3 stand up paddle boards at Cuyuna.

  • Older boy “trek” program out of Cuyuna.

  • We are currently working on plans for a “Cuyuna Arcade” that will highlight a giant chess board, Ga Ga ball pit, giant battle ship, and more.

  • Cub Scout resident camps and both Norseland and Cedar Point.

  • Expanded STEM/NOVA programs in all of our camp programs.

  • Addition of a Cub Scout “Family Camp” at Cuyuna in 2017

Timeline

  • Commit to selling trash bags - NOW!
  • Show 'n Deliver orders due - March 15, 2017
  • Show 'n Deliver product pick up - March 27, 2017
  • Sale begins - April 1, 2017
  • Final Take Order due - May 5, 2017
  • Final product pick up - May 16, 2017
  • Payment due - May 31, 2017

Note also in the below information is the number of rolls a youth would need to sell in order to 100% pay his way to camp.
