Silver Beaver and District Award of Merit Nomination Needed

Scouting volunteers are the engine that drives the Scouting movement.  Without them, we could not achieve the mission of instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law in young people.  It is important to recognize those volunteers for the great job they do.

Two awards are given annually that recognize the “Best of the Best”.  Here is a little background on each award:

  • The District Award of Merit is given for outstanding service on the district level and is the highest award that a district can bestow on a Scouter.  A district can give 1 District Award of Merit award for every 25 units in the district (or fraction thereof.)  Therefore, districts can give away the following number of Award of Merits in 2017):

    • Cedar Valley - 2

    • River Stone - 2

    • Western Prairie - 2

  • The Silver Beaver is given for outstanding service on the council level and is the highest award that a council can bestow on Scouter.  A council can give 1 Silver Beaver award for every 60 units in the council (or fraction thereof).  Therefore, we can give away 3 Silver Beavers in 2017.  Attached is a list of all past Twin Valley Council Silver Beaver recipients.

Nominations for both of these awards are due by the end of the year and will be awarded during either the district dinner (District Award of Merit) or the council annual banquet (Silver Beaver).  Please pass on these forms and encourage nominations of worthy volunteers.  Thanks.
