The following is an email received from Pam Determan, coordinator for Rake The Town.

Rake The Town is an excellent way to earn service hours for your unit!

Dear 2013 Rake the Town volunteers,

I learned on Friday that the leaf vacuums from the Cities of Mankato, North Mankato, and St. Peter won't be put into service for at least another week until more leaves have fallen. Because of this we need to make a decision in the next day or so as to whether to reschedule the date of VINE's  Annual Fall Service Project.

Since planning for this event has been underway for many months, this isn't a decision that we are entering into lightly. However, it also makes no good sense to mobilize 700 volunteers next weekend to rake a minimal amount of leaves and then have to go back again in a couple weeks to finish the job.

I've confirmed with St. Joseph the Worker Church that their auditorium is available on Saturday, November 9 and I'm writing to see if it would be possible for your group to rake on that day. Since all the homeowners need to be notified, press releases sent out, and arrangements for food rescheduled, we'll need to make a final decision in the next day.

Please reply to this email and let me know if you can reschedule your group and still help us if we do change the date. If it wouldn't work for you to rake on November 9, we have the capacity to schedule your group on an alternate date once more leaves have fallen. Without your help, Rake the Town would not be possible, so please let me know ASAP if your schedule can be flexible to accommodate this unforeseen challenge.

Thanks so much,

Pam Determan
