Norseland Scout Camp

 

This year's Klondike will continue to build on introducing winter outdoor activities to Scouts and their troops via hands-on winter skill training and demonstrations.  Join us to experience Minnesota at its finest and spend the day at Norseland Scout Camp learning the skills needed to camp and adventure in the winter outdoors!

Each troop will be assigned a campsite for gear storage and lunch during registration.

Schedule of Events

8:00 - 8:45 a.m.     Registration

8:45 - 9:00 a.m.     SPL and Adult Briefing

9:00 a.m.      Flags and Welcome

9:15 - 11:30 a.m.     Winter Skills Carnival

11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.     Lunch - bring your own!

1 - 3 p.m.     "Lost In The Woods" Winter Survival Skills

Training

3:30 p.m.     Derby Race

4:00 p.m.     Awards and Closing Flags

Registration is open and available by clicking the orange box to the right.

  • $7.50 per Youth and Adult if registered by January 31st
  • Late fee begins February 1st and is $15 per Youth and Adult
  • On line registration closes on February 2nd
  • After February 2nd you may still attend but must contact event coordinators and pay the fee of $25 per person at the door.

The Winter Skills Carnival will include:  Snow Shoeing, Black Powder Rifle shooting, Snow Shelter Building, Dog Sled Demo, Winter Tent Camping demonstration and Train the Trainer snow shoe making.

KLONDIKE 2015 IS AN OUTDOOR WINTER DAY CAMP FOR

BOYS SCOUTS AND 2ND YEAR WEBELOS.

SCOUTS WILL BE OUTDOORS ALL DAY IN THE WINTER ENVIRONMENT, SNOW OR SHINE.

ANY SCOUT WHO DOES NOT ATTEND WEARING THE APPROPRIATE WINTER CLOTHING AND GEAR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.

Each troop should bring the following

  • Troop or Patrol Klondike Sled(s) for Derby Race on the lake.
  • Snow shovels for those Scouts participating in snow shelter building.
  • 2 cans of non-cream based chicken based soup (example:  Chicken Noodle vs. Cream of Chicken)
  • 2 cans of non-cream based beef based soup
  • Lunch for every Scout in your troop that is attending (limited wood for campfires will be provided).
  • A mess kit cup for soup or hot chocolate
  • Troop Leaders should have their attending Scouts' health forms with them in the event they are needed. These are the same forms you would have for camp-o-rees.
  • A permission slip for each Scout that wants to shoot at the black powder range

All Adult Scout Leaders are welcome to join the camp staff for a hot BBQ lunch at the main lodge after their Scouts are taken out by the ROTC cadets for "Lost In The Woods".

The Winter Skills Carnival is an open event with no rotation or pre-scheduling by troop.  The only exception is the Snow Shoe Making Training session which is limited to 2 Scouts per Troop.  Otherwise, the Scouts can move around freely between activities and do as many as they like.
