Each year Sleeping With The Dinosaurs continues to grow.  Whether there are 100 or 600 Scouters at this event, it's an event that you don't want to miss!  The Science Museum is well equipped to handle our group and they do an incredible job with programming for the Scouts, the Omni Theater is always a huge hit and parents enjoy the Scouting crack-barrel provided at the end of the day!

The theme for 2016 is "The Best of 30 Years".  This theme highlights some of the best activities, presentations and shows from the past three decades!  How exciting!  The Scouts will move from station to station experiencing more of what the Science Museum has to offer.

Changes are happening at the Science Museum with how the flow of the event will be executed.  Instead of choosing a Science Station for the Scout to participate in, this year's event will now offer 6-8 science activity stations scattered across the museum gallery spaces.  Scouts will be welcome to stay at one station or visit all's their choice!

But wait!  There's more to this event than the Science Stations!  Scouts will also experience interaction with other Scouts from around southern Minnesota, it's an overnight camping experience - who doesn't want to sleep with a dinosaur!,  there are behind the scenes tours and activities, the Omni Theater and Science Live Theater demonstrations, and of course FOOD!  There's a pizza buffet, late night snack and Sunday breakfast! 

This event begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 20th and you'll be on your way home by 8:30 a.m. Sunday, February 21st.

All Tiger Cubs (first graders) must attend with a parent.  All other Scouts are encouraged to have a parent attend with them.

This event is a family event so siblings are welcome to attend.  All siblings must have a parent in attendance with them.

Registration and Fees

Cost for this event is $46 per person (adult and youth).  Registration can be completed by clicking the orange box to the right.  On time registration is due by February 13th.

After February 14th the fee is $55 per person (adult and youth).

Registration closes February 17th.

Please keep in mind - due to the large number of people attending this event and the fact this event is provided to us through the Science Museum of Minnesota, registration deadlines need to be earlier than typical Scouting events.  Out of respect, please plan ahead and register early.


What to Bring
  • One large bag per person:  Pack your gear in a garbage, laundry or duffel bag that is labeled with your name and unit type and number.  For example:  Joe Scout; Pack 123.  All belongings should be marked to minimize the loss of items.  Please pack lightly; storage space is limited.
  • Sleeping gear:  An indoor sleeping bag or bed roll is great!  Please note:  you will be sleeping on hard floors!  Foam sleeping pads are highly recommended.  You must provide your own sleeping pad or air mattress.  Due to space and safety limitations, cots or large air beds cannot be accommodated.
  • Comfortable clothing:  Layers of clothing are recommended.  Keep in mind both men and women attend this event.  Also, the Camp-In Team is comprised of men and women.  This is a camping experience so we encourage participants to sleep in their clothes.
  • Comfortable shoes:  Shoes must be worn at all times (except while sleeping).
  • Personal items:  Pillow, toothbrush, toothpaste, small towel and washcloth, face soap, and other essentials.  No shower is available.
  • Quite games:  simple quiet games to share during quiet time (11p.m. - midnight) are allowed.
  • Extra money:  There are vending machines and a museum gift shop within the museum.  Participants may purchase items during free time.

Please do not brings:  large inflatable beds, cots, hair dryers, flashlights, personal stereos, video games, laptop computers, CD's curling irons or other electrical devices.

Any Scout with special dietary needs should bring their own food for meals and snacks.  Refrigeration for special food and medial supplies will be available.
