SLEEPING WITH THE DINOSAURS 2015

 February 21-22, 2015

Science Museum of Minnesota

120 Kellogg Blvd.

St. Paul, MN  55102

"SPACE EXPLORATION - LIVING AND WORKING IN SPACE"

This year's theme for Sleeping With The Dinosaurs is Space.

Scouts will choose between two Space Stations

"Physics and Force" or

"Spaced Out!"

Each Scout and parent that registers for Sleeping With The Dinosaurs will be required to choose one of the two station options during the registration process.

Option #1 - Physics and Force Station:  Just who were Newton, Bernoulli and Pascal and why is their work so amazing... even today? Scouts in this space station will find out as they learn about gravity, optical illusions, balance, inertia, and a lot more through a series of fun, hand-on experiments.

Some of the activities will include

  • Bernoulli's Principle (alcohol candle activity)
  • Pascal's Law (plunger activity)
  • Newton's First Law (elbow penny, scarf under table, pail of water activities)
  • Atmospheric Pressure (egg in bottle)
  • Air Pressure (balloon in bottle)
  • Effects of Water Pressure (hydraulic engineering activity)
  • Explain what causes fog (cloud creation)
  • Center of Gravity (build a model tightrope walker)
  • Optical Illusion (perception theater)

Webelos Scouts will complete 9 of the 14 requirements for their Scientist badge at this station.

Option #2 - Spaced Out! Station:  Ever wonder what it is like waking up on the International Space Station?  In this space station, Scouts will experience what it takes to travel, live and work in space.  Learn about inertia, gravity, rockets, the moon and a whole lot more.  This space station will be an out-of-this-world, hands-on fun time!

Boys Scouts who attend this space station will complete various requirements for their Astronomy and Space Exploration Merit Badges.

Astronomy will complete requirements 6C, 6D, and 9.

Space Exploration will complete requirements 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 6A, 6B and 8A

**NOTE**  Even though space stations offer requirements for specific badges, any age may attend either space station.

Space Stations are just the start of the fun!
