Health Officer

The Health Officer is directly responsible to the Camp Director and Ranger. Because of the nature of this position, it is imperative that the Health Officer be on call at all times to handle emergencies that may arise. Health and emergency procedures should be thoroughly discussed and understood with the Camp Director. The Health Officer must be at least 18 years old and be an EMT, nurse, medical student, doctor or (under strict guidelines) a first responder.

Duties include:

  • Maintain schedule of hours for the health lodge as established by the Camp Director.
  • Perform medical inspection on all Scouts and leaders checking into camp.
  • Inform staff of medical conditions of Scouts they will have in their areas.
  • Notify Camp Director and Scout authorities in case of severe injury.  Camp Director will contact parents.
  • Keep adequate records of all illnesses, injuries, and treatments in the BSA First Aid Log Book.
  • Keep health lodge sanitary and neat at all times.
  • Participate in staff meetings, sharing ideas for the continual improvement of the camp program in health and safety.
  • Be responsible for the health and safety of entire camp including state and federal regulations and daily check of hot and cold charts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
