Host Family Program
Created To Help Improve Family Camp Experience

Because of the location of family camp, and other facility obligations, the Ranger does not always know what is happening in family camp! So to improve the quality and control of family camp, a Host Family position has been created! This position is a volunteer position, but has great benefits! The following is a description of the position and what we are looking for in a Host family:

The Host Family would be responsible for:

  • Answering questions such as:
    • Camp schedule
    • Camp Wide Meals
    • Chapel schedule
    • Trading post schedule
  • Local information such as locations of: grocery stores, banks, churches, bait shops, etc.
  • Making sure the bathroom/shower house and fish house are clean and stocked
  • Ensure family camp is a clean and orderly state.
  • Inspect personal boats before being launched (in accordance with DNR guidelines)
  • Ensure the boats, canoes and equipment are stored every evening, after personal use and all boats/canoes are cleaned out of all personal gear (If not rented).
  • Contact the ranger if anything needs to be repaired or stocked.
  • Available in case of emergency situations. (Weather, medical, ECT.)
  • Contact ranger of any incidences (where camp rules are not being followed) so Camp Ranger can deal with accordingly.
  • Manage check into and check out of family camp campsites (Collect names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses from all campers, so a census can be created to track number of people that use family camp)
  • Hand out rules and regulations handouts for campers to read.
  • Collect Service and Suggestion surveys from all campers.
  • Manage firewood and inform Camp Ranger of need.
  • Check out equipment to campers in need of (axes, wedges, rakes, shovels, etc.)
  • Give Camp Ranger daily, (evening) verbal report of how things are going.

How to become a host family

  1. Host family dates will be June 1 – August 15
  2. The host family will need to plan on staying at camp for 2 weeks
  3. The host family will need to supply their own camper or tent
  4. The host family should be responsible, reliable and have good communication skills and be able to cooperate with the ranger and other campers at all times.
  5. To apply for the Host Family position please contract the Camp ranger at (218) 692-3612 or Space is limited, so apply today to reserve your Host Family position (Host Family’s must be pre-approved by Camp Ranger!)

  2. Meet lots of interesting people and make new friends
  3. There will be no camp site fees for the Host Family

NOTE: Host Family responsibilities do not apply to the Cuyuna Steward program.
